About Climate South East
Our mission
Our mission is to investigate, inform and advise on the threats and opportunities arising from the impacts of climate change in South East England and to promote adaptive planning in the region. For more information please read about our objectives.
Our geographical area
The South East of England covers the geographical areas of Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Hampshire, Isle of Wight, East Sussex, Kent, Oxfordshire, Surrey and West Sussex.
Our role
We bring together diverse public, private and voluntary sector organisations with a shared recognition of the need to adapt to the likely impacts of climate change. We aim to help our members and stakeholders to develop integrated responses. This includes the need to take advantage of any opportunities that arise from changes as well as reducing the threats. We also serve as a link with national organisations such as the UK Climate Impacts Programme and those in other regions of the UK who are addressing similar issues. In 1999, we published Rising to the Challenge, a study of the possible social, environmental and economic impacts of climate change in the region.
Our Programme
Includes:
- Workshops for members and stakeholders to address specific aspects of adapting to climate change impacts
- Projects to focus on members' needs for research into climate change impacts, develop tools for adaptation or to demonstrate good practice
- Raising awareness of climate change issues and responses within and beyond the membership, through our Climate Change Bulletin and other
