ADM computing – Canterbury company drives down road fuel costs.

ADM Computing is one of Kent’s largest and longest established independent computer companies. The Canterbury-based organisation is dedicated to providing businesses in the South East with a wide range of
services, including network installations, cabling, web designing and IT consultancy. They are constantly striving to reduce their environmental impact, having implemented a number of simple measures resulting in significant cost savings as well as helping the planet.

Cutting down the time engineers are out on the road has been a key part of ADM's forward thinking. They have been working with all their customers to try and ensure that wherever possible they are able to help companies with rapid response remote support. For some clients this has been a simple process of enabling them to work through their own firewalls or routers or where this is not available to offer them other remote connectivity software. This internet based software ranges in cost from £50 to £150 per month and makes sure any problems or changes to programmes can rapidly be made. They also offer a server monitoring service, called ADM Guard Dog, which provides companies with a remote montioring of their systems and pre-empts system failures; once again reducing the need for expensive emergency call outs.

Additionally, work routes for engineers are carefully planned manually or using software such as Map-Point or Auto-Route to avoid any back-tracking and, where possible, jobs are allocated to engineers in the areas in which they live. Satellite Navigation systems also enablethe engineers to find unfamiliar locations quicker and easier.

Engineers also check in with the office on the completion of each job so that they can be reallocated when needed.

By improving travel planning and increasing remote support to customers, ADM has reduced vehicle fuel costs by 20% - 30%; saving £200 - £300 per month out of their previous £1000 per month usage.
