Crawley Putting You in the Picture

Significant funding was awarded to Crawley Council to fund a 2 year educational campaign aimed at highlighting Climate Change awareness in the local community.

Year One:
Objectives for the first half of this campaign were about raising awareness of the effects of climate change on the local residential and business community as well as showing the effects already taking place on a global scale.

Over 500 photo’s were captured of Crawley residents and consent forms signed. The brand identity was created using the images collected in our creative, quite literally ‘Putting you in the picture’. This photo shoot generated a huge amount of awareness and got people on board with the campaign from the outset.

A Summit event was held in November 2006 alongside promoting the campaign by way of advertising material, leaflets, posters distributed to schools, businesses, public places of interest, theatres and in local newspapers delivered directly to homes (using recycled materials). A mobile stand was produced allowing it to be taken to different locations within the town. Literature, energy efficient bulbs and save-a-flush bags were being handed out from this stand to all who signed the Crawley Pledge on Climate Change therefore raising awareness but to also promote our Climate Change Summit.

A web site http://www.crawleyclimatechallenge.co.uk was built by Storm and has been used to keep everyone informed of up and coming events such as networking events, road shows, annual events and regular news updates of climate change as well as our successes.

Year Two:
The objectives of the second year were to inform people of the solutions to climate change. Main objectives were to bring to each individual’s attention just what their own carbon footprint would be like and how they can take positive actions to reduce it.

A business e-shot campaign was developed and with the assistance of another partner CADIA, we were able to forward our email to their business contacts. An editorial piece in addition to this e-shot was entered into the CADIA publication and local newspaper.

Many hours of creative expertise and project management was dedicated to this campaign and in doing so increased the awareness statistics Crawley Borough Council have required for this campaign. Crawley Borough Council and Storm’s dedication and commitment to delivering a successful campaign has not gone unnoticed. With the County Times Business Awards 2007, Storm were the proud winners of the “Business if the Year Award 2006” and “Best Environmental Award 2006” a truly proud time for the Storm team and Crawley Borough Council Environment team alike.

Final statistics to date show in excess of 7000 Crawley climate change pledges have been signed, 70 of which are business and in excess of 100,000 hits to our http://www.crawleyclimatechallenge.co.uk web site.
