Kent based Compact and Bale help companies watch their wasteline.

Established in July 2000 Compact & Bale Ltd is a market leader in the supply of waste and recycling equipment and services. It counts many hospitals, shopping centres, government departments and companies such as Aylesford Newsprint, Campbell's Foods, HJ Heinz, Pfizer, and SCA among its customers.

Compact and Bale repeatedly demonstrates that good waste management saves businesses money and also brings with it improved site safety; space savings; reduced fire hazards; decreased site traffic; lower waste disposal costs; and the opportunity, for some, to sell waste for profit.

By compacting waste, you can reduce its volume to a ratio of up to 10:1. Minimising waste to landfill makes good environmental sense and good business sense.

Furthermore, waste such as cardboard and plastic have value as raw material. If an organisation generates sufficient tonnage each month, Compact & Bale offers a “free baler for material” deal and can help companies find a market for these materials.

To illustrate the business case, Compact and Bale have highlighted one of their customers: this retailer used to fill four 240 litre wheelie bins each week with cardboard
which was then collected by their local contractor at a cost of £6.50 per bin, totalling about £1,350 per annum.

Realising that this was a lot of money for a small retailer to be throwing away each year, the company began to look at other options.

Like most small retailers their main concern was that they wouldn’t have the access or floor space to install a compactor or baler. Compact and Bale conducted a free site survey and were able to show the retailer how they could fit a compactor on the premises. The retailer said, "Since the baler was delivered, we haven’t looked back. It’s so easy to use and does all the work for you. You put in whole boxes and it squashes them into bales, simple. It will have paid for itself completely within 2 years and everything we save after that goes back onto our bottom line.”

Compact and Bale’s entire business model is based on diverting waste from landfill and on selling waste as raw materials. As the cost of waste disposal increases, business has boomed for Compact and Bale because they are able to offer a cost effective viable alternative to companies with waste issues.

Offering this service has helped Compact and Bale win new business and it has helped their customers to save money on waste disposal and also earn money by selling their waste as a resource.
