Hampshire & Isle of Wight Sustainable Business Network

The Sustainable Business Network (SBN) was established in 2005 as a platform to bring together local businesses across various industry sectors for the common purpose of identifying the opportunities relating to various aspects of sustainability activity, and receiving practical advice, training and support to translate them into real action. The Network is business led, and facilitated and administered by the Sustainable Business Partnership (SBP).

Typically, 40-50 businesses come together on a quarterly basis of a half day meeting addressing a different sustainability issue (past meetings have included energy, waste, water, transport, green marketing, EMS…) through a combination of presentations, case studies and a practical workshop element, designed to give the business a range of actions which they can then implement in their own organisation.

Through the SBN member businesses have access to a wide range of expertise drawn from across the Sustainable Business Partnership, and crucially are able to learn from each other in a B2B learning environment. The networking opportunities afforded by having this number of like-minded businesses present have led to further business taking place between members, as well as the positive climate impact reductions stemming from the core programme.

Membership of the SBN grows steadily, with over 400 businesses now in contact with the SBP. Beyond these meetings SBN members are supported through the circulation of a monthly Emag monitoring sector news and developments, updating on legislation and promoting local advice, information and services, as well as the provision of an enquiry helpline, business resource pack and various other activities and events.
