‘Trade Leftovers’ website
‘Trade Leftovers’ is a website recently launched by Checkatrade, a trade directory for tradesmen, where tradesmen can register waste for free collection. Checkatrade worked with Business Link to create ‘Trade Leftovers’.
Checkatrade were looking for a way to promote what they do across the construction and trades community. An opportunity was identified in the area of construction waste. Twenty per cent of material purchased on average by the construction industry ends up in skips. There is increasing pressure on the construction industry to confront this issue, especially with the introduction of Site Waste Management Plans.
Thus the ‘Trade Leftovers’ website was launched where waste can be registered as a resource for free collection.
Checkatrade ltd., with the help of Business Link, has developed a Win:Win solution to directly benefit their core business and reduce waste volume to skips at the same time by encouraging reuse.
Although the project is in its infancy Checkatrade is supporting the project and will develop the scheme and its benefits as a not for profit. Ultimately they would like to go national.
