Climate change is one of the most challenging environmental issues we face. As protectors of the environment, we believe it is crucial that all local authorities are well informed and well prepared for the impacts of climate change so that the best decisions can be made. We host the South West Climate Change Impacts Partnership (SWCCIP), the only organisation dedicated to helping regional organisations and local authorities adapt to the climate change challenge; this is a superb opportunity to co-ordinate the South West National Indicator 188 (NI188) programme and support local authorities as they overcome this challenge.
Liaising with members of the NI 188 network and other SWCCIP partners, you’ll provide support and advice in the preparation of risk assessments and adaptation strategies, facilitate shared learning and generally act as an information focal point regarding adaptation to climate change. So, you’ll lead workshops, communicate with partners, attend events and produce written reports, communication plans and case studies. You’ll stimulate ideas, drive actions and ensure the South West leads the way in this important area.
Obviously you’ll understand climate change, particularly climate change adaptation in relation to public sector strategies; you’ll also be particularly familiar with its impact on local authorities and their strategic partnerships. You’ll be used to working with local authorities, and experienced in influencing strategies, preparing action plans and engaging a wide range of stakeholders with authority and efficiency.
