Climate South East Projects: Business Director Due Diligence

Climate South East received funding from Defra in 2007 to undertake a year-long project looking at business and climate change. We recruited StepAhead Research consultants to investigate the attitudes of directors and managers of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) toward climate change. In particular, we aimed to gauge directors’ perception of their roles and responsibilities in responding to the issues raised by climate change, with a view to learning how to promote better business engagement on the issue.

Climate South East Projects: ESPACE II

As part of the first and second phases of the European Spatial Planning: Adapting to Climate Events (ESPACE) partnership, Climate South East and Hampshire County Council worked with consultants Alexander Ballard Ltd. to produce a process for measuring and improving organisational behaviour on climate change. The process comprises an in-depth investigation into the attitudes, policies, and practices of an organisation with regard to climate change, as well as a customised report indicating potential areas for improvement. We have recently piloted the process with a few of our partner organisations. We intend to continue testing and refining the process with the help of partners, and we hope to make it available as a valuable tool in promoting behaviour change throughout the partnership and beyond.

Climate South East Projects: Your Home in a Changing Climate

In conjunction with the East of England and London Climate Change Partnerships, Climate South East commissioned a study about the options for retrofitting existing housing stock for climate change impacts. Looking specifically at issues raised by flooding, water stress, and overheating, the study looked at the options for retrofitting a house, a flat, and a block of flats and found that simple and cost-effective measures to improve the resilience of housing can also deliver significant reductions in CO2 emissions.
