The Climate South East Planning group works to ensure that measures to improve resilience to climate change impacts and to prevent further ecological degradation are implemented in planning policy at local, regional, national, and European levels.

Emissions Monitoring

Chair: Justin Goodwin, Strategic Environmental Systems

The Climate South East Emissions Monitoring group works to provide technical support and advice to partners in their efforts to measure and reduce their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

At the last meeting on August 13, the group reviewed the results so far of the Emissions Monitoring survey of the tools available to help local authorities monitor greenhouse gas emissions under NIs 185 and 186. Those results, along with the partners’ views about issues arising from reporting on the indicators, will inform a joint CSE response to the government’s consultation on the indicators. We urge as many partners as possible to join in this response by completing the survey. We want to use your responses to communicate to Government your views on emissions monitoring in the SE and to contribute constructively to the future design of better and more efficient systems for monitoring and reporting. Because you can respond anonymously, you can answer frankly and CSE can represent your views without naming names.

Biodiversity

Chair: Currently vacant

The Climate South East Biodiversity group aims to share and to support partners in implementing solutions to make species and habitats as resilient as possible to climate change impacts, and ecosystems robust and functional (providing life-support services) in the face of climate change impacts.

The Biodiversity group is currently scoping some work to examine how well existing policies and programmes aimed at protecting biodiversity incorporate future climate change scenarios. A project spec will be circulated in early January.
